Years ago, the world slowly became at peace with itself.
Citizens happily enjoy speaking to others across the borders, war was considered unnecessary and was viewed as an outdated method of solving things, but the ones who brought the world together?
The ones who erased borders, allowing humans to have their freedom?
The ones we humans saw as a waste of existence?
Those are the ones we tormented and played with their immortality, obviously.
The personifications of nations.
And after we forced them away, we destroyed what we thought we had achieved on our own.
A man walked through a trading post, a hood over his head and a bag full of stolen items.
He traded soup for bread, and he traded bread for canned fruit.
When he spoke, it was obvious he was Italian. Although, he didn't say much, his head and voice remained low. He took his items he received and left, quickly and quietly.
The Italian man continued to walk towards the forest. If you walk to slow, or you're not alert, you'll be murdered, and your belongings will be stolen. If you run, if it's obvious you're worn out, you'll be murdered, and your belongings will be stolen.
Those were just the basic rules he had grown accustomed to; although, in his case, instead of murdered, the appropriate word was 'found'.
He had set up his camp, but without a fire. A sleeping bag and a sky filled with stars would do. He pulled down his hood, and glanced around to see if anyone was near. The Italian man had a curl on the side of his head, and dull green eyes that could have been brighter at some point.
He had a can opener with him, and began to feast on the fruit from the trading post. His bag of stolen items was something he had found on the side of the road next to a sleeping man, once the Italian had escaped.
It contained photographs of people he thought to be the man's family. The mere thought of the photos would've made the younger version of him tear up, but not anymore.
Not the new South Italy.
