The prince and the Fire Lord. Both were once sweet, cheerful little boys turned cold and angry by their lot in life. Ozai would forever be killing himself to best his brother, while the loss of Zuko's mother and his banishment three years later hardened an idealistic soul into an obsessed wanderer.
Both did unspeakable things to win back their father's love. Ozai planned to have his son murdered to win the throne, it cost him his father and his wife. Zuko betrayed the one person who loved him for himself to win back his honor, and it nearly cost him his sanity.
This is where the similarities will end. As Zuko packs his bags, he reflects on a life lived beneath a veil of ignorance and privilege; how that veil was forcefully lifted by recent discoveries.
I was the perfect prince, the son he always wanted.
"I will not become you," he whispers to a picture of Ozai. "I will never become you, Ozai, never."
Neither of these men will ever be those sweet little boys again, but it's not too late for Zuko to become a better man.
He tosses the picture into the fire and casts a glance in the mirror.
"You will regain your honor."
This time he's going to do it right.
