So I'm a horrible friend, but I totally forgot to write something for Steph's bday today bc of life taking over (and she wrote me that beautiful fic for mine cries) so I just took something semi angsty from my docs and I hope to god that she hasn't proofread this one.
I love you bby, and thank you for sticking by me the past three or four months. You truly are a darling. Even with our fights.
Sending you a million pugssssss.
(This is one of the rare times I actually attempt at past tense)
Disclaimer: NO I DON'T OWN IT AND MY COMPUTER KEEPS REMINDING ME THAT IT'S STEPH'S BDAY AND I'M RUSHING SO DO YOU THINK I'M IN THE MOOD- sorry. No. I don't own Castle.
Rick ran his finger over the words filling his screen, feeling the line of her jawbone under his skin, as if he wrote her back to life.
This one. This one would work. It was finally complete, this draft, the draft with phrases and paragraphs and sentences that described the love of his life. He could almost pretend that she was right behind him, her chin resting on his shoulder as he typed, trying to catch a spoiler (or two).
The sparkle faded from her eyes in his mind, the black letters falling lifeless beneath his fingers (almost literally).
Not this time.
He carefully unbends aching joints; slides the rough draft amongst the others he has made over the years. One thousand, six hundred, thirty pages of her, each one describing the smile that had the ability to brighten up his day; how each of those made his life better. Some of them were dreary, some of them happy, but he wrote them for her. As she had collapsed in front of him, her body seizing in pain, he had promised her to continue writing her in between cries of 'I love you,' and 'don't leave me'.
It had been more than fifty years since he had last heard her voice and he would hear it once more before he died.
He sat down once again, determined to make sure to get every detail correct, the shape of her mouth; her ability to keep up with his snarks with her agile mind. To make sure that everyone knew that she was and continued to be loved, for all eternity.
This one. This one would work.
It's so short. I feel so inadequate ugh.
