Little Dean Winchester was having a rubbish day, and the fact that it was raining added nothing positive to the young boy's mind. He trudged alone through the streets of the city, heading back to his dad and Sam with a tiny frown decorating his forehead, kicking moodily at a stone in front of him so it kept on rolling. All of a sudden, Dean felt the complete urge to look up and when he did so, his eyes fell on a man walking slowly down the opposite pavement.

As soon as Dean saw him, the strangest thing happened; an indescribable sense of happiness and peace washed over him, overwhelming in its suddenness and intensity. Without thinking it through properly, Dean abandoned his little stone and scampered across the road to this man, who hadn't noticed him, and tugged on the corner of his long coat.

"Excuse me? Hey, sir!" His little voice piped and the man looked down. Dean's eyes widened even more as his gaze met the shimmering, almost unearthly blue of the man's eyes and, in an awed voice, he asked,

"Are you an angel?"

For a second, the man looked utterly stunned. Then slowly, a small smile spread across his tired face and he turned to face Dean properly, crouching down so they were at the same eye level.

"What makes you think that?" He asked. His voice was quite deep, and also had a raspy tone to it.

"I dunno. I just felt it." Dean beamed at him, "and your eyes as well. They're really angel-yy!"

The man gave a low chuckle, but he gazed curiously at this young human. Then he gently laid a hand on Dean's shoulder.

"You're a smart kid. What's your name?"

"Dean Winchester." Dean replied proudly "And I've got a little brother called Sammy. He loves me."

"I'm sure he does." The man smiled again. "I'm Castiel." He added

"Castiel. Cas-tee-el." Dean repeated, trying out the name. Then he grinned up at Castiel "I have to go now, Castiel, Sammy's waiting for me."

"Goodbye then, Dean Winchester." Castiel said.

"Bye Mr. Angel!" Dean called as he turned to leave

"Hey, it's our secret, okay?" Castiel called after him with a secretive smile. Grinning in return, Dean mimed zipping his lips before continuing on his way home, much happier than before as the skies appropriately brightened up and gave way to sunshine.
