Alright, first things first. Disclaimer: I do not own Resident Evil, Umbrella, or the idea for a virus that makes people all zombie like. I did not originally right this as a fanfic, but my work has a tendency to become one. This is my first fanfic. So please R+R. If you like it, tell me. If you don't, tell me why. I will put up the first chapter if I get a good response from the Prologue. The Prologue really has nothing to do with Resident Evil but it sets the pace, and lets you get to know some of the characters a little bit.
Prologue
Jason Kenney watched the fireworks from the patio of his apartment in Grussell Creek, Wisconsin. Normally fireworks were prohibited in this quiet little suburban town, but people had enough to celebrate on that particular day of the year. Jason thought back to that day, the day his troubles began. No, he thought to himself, no. It was the day before. The citizens celebrated a day after everything began because that was one year it didn't begin again.
Jason listened to the crowd. Only a few people, most of who were from out of town, "Ooh" ed, and "Ah" ed at the magnificent fireworks display. Old Greg and Paul put effort into this years display. The fireworks exploded in a splendid array of colors. Colors like fire red, sapphire blue, emerald green, sunset orange, traffic light yellow, and grape purple. Jason had to admit, even after all he'd been through, the simple things were what amazed him the most. He didn't care about leading technology, the wave of the future or anything like that. Just the simple things like a great fireworks display, or catching a friend when he tries to sneak up on you.
"How are you, Lewis?" Jason asked as one of his best friends came onto the patio. Jason knew Lewis Brown meant to surprise him.
"How did you know I was here?" Lewis asked, obviously surprised.
"You know about my fascination with Sherlock Holmes. I deduced it. It's one of the reasons I got this patio. A view of the front entrance and I saw you come in. The rest as they say is elementary. By the way, say hi to your wife for me"
"A penny for your thoughts, Jason," Sarah Brown said behind her husband.
"I'll chip in a quarter," Bob Williams piped in.
"I was wondering what kept you, Watson," Jason replied as he turned to his friend, who was standing there with a smile on his face. It had been a while since the entire group had been together. Jason noticed one was missing.
"I used the stairs, Holmes," Bob told him, still smiling.
"At your wife's suggestion, I presume." Jason smiled as he saw her walk into view.
"Of course, Jason." Lisa Williams replied to the question. "How are you? Fine, I'll take it if you avoid an offer of twenty-six cents for the answer to a question."
"I was thinking back about twenty years ago." Jason turned back to the fireworks, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Twenty years and a day."
