Wow, it's been a long time since I've uploaded anything! I know I've got a couple of things that need finishing but I thought I'd just do this little one shot now. Anyway, I obviously don't own Wicked or the characters etc, and I hope you enjoy the story!
Nessarose had once asked her sister what it would feel like to be in love. Elphaba had laughed and dismissed this as a silly question; Nessa had been reading fairy stories again and they prompted many such questions, including 'do I have a fairy godmother?' and 'how do I know if a person is wicked? On seeing the determined look on Nessa's face, however, Elphaba had stopped laughing and tried to answer the question in the best way that she could.
'Once', Elphaba had begun, 'when I had wanted to know more about our mother, father told me about the first time he saw her. He said he knew straight away that he was in love with her – his mouth went dry, his heart beat quickened, his hands started to sweat and he couldn't talk to her for more than a few words at a time. Sounds silly really.' Elphaba paused, but continued at Nessarose's insistence. 'Father said that there was no way of describing how it is that you know you're in love; he said that it's just something that you know; a feeling that you've never experienced before but you somehow know what it is. Does that help?'
Nessa nodded even though she had not understood. The topic was not mentioned again.
Many years later Nessarose found herself thinking about her sister's words. She was positioned in her chair at the edge of the Ozdust Ballroom dancefloor, and standing next to her was Boq. Nessa felt her heart rate increase as Boq absentmindedly placed a hand on the arm of her chair. She felt her mouth go dry when he asked her whether she would like to dance, and found that she could offer no response other than nodding her head. Then, when Boq smiled at her and held out a hand for her to take, her sister's words finally made sense. There was no way of describing how she felt about the man standing in front of her. There was no way of explaining how or why it had happened, but Nessa knew one thing for certain; this was what it was like to be in love.
