Between Limbo

The dreams just wouldn't stop.
They both knew this.
It doesn't help, though, when Mai had awaken, the sudden vertigo of the sand suffocating her in the Shadow Realm left her sick and breathless, her hands were shaking.
"Sssh..." Serenity's hand was cool on the blonde's back, though she flinched away from the other girl's touch.
"I was falling, and this s-sand kept swallowing me whole." She mumbled, shutting her eyes against the dizzying darkness. "Damn it, I'm always in that darkness."
In the darkness her hair looked black, a softer shadow in the dark.
"Come back to me, Mai."
The sound of Serenity's voice has always called Mai to herself. The blonde duelist then took a long, shuddering breath and the present snapped back into focus.
"The dreams won't stop."
She sounded about as half as tired as she felt, and she sounded exhausted.
"But they're only dreams, Mai."
