20 Years At Sea; Day One - Characters
Straw Hat was strange.
Judge knew this when he saw him, eccentric personality and all. Yet it wasn't the clothes he wore, it wasn't the overly happy smile on his face and it wasn't just his reckless behaviour.
It was how he had convinced Sanji, a failure, to follow him.
Straw Hat had turned Sanji from a weak boy, who had a heart for everyone, into a strong man, who had a heart for his crew.
Straw Hat did not show Sanji how cruel the world was. Straw Hat did not show Sanji hunger.
Judge didn't look for it, but these are things he just saw.
No, Straw Hat taught Sanji dreams. Straw Hat showed Sanji what family should mean.
Judge knows there's more to it, when Sanji had proclaimed about a father and a father's sadness, because Straw Hat was just not a father.
And Judge would be lying if he said he didn't feel complete sadness, he just didn't care for it. He pushed it away and paid back the favour. He wouldn't allow Germa to be in debt to a failure.
He pushed it away because sadness made one weak, and heart made one lose.
So Judge just accepted that someone taught Sanji family and Straw Hat showed him dreams, and Judge just accepted that whilst he created a failure, Straw Hat had found Sanji and Sanji had found himself.
Straw Hat was strange, after all.
