Birthdays; Another thing we'd always shared, and always would share. The joint parties, the same exact presents, and the giant cake shared between the two of us. I'd never minded all of that though, it was a big deal when I was sharing with you...
Well, another birthday had come to pass. I'd woken up early that morning, only to find that you weren't there next to me. I sat up, running my fingers through my hair, trying to figure out where you'd went.
You hadn't gone to the bathroom, so I figured you must have just gone downstairs. I stumbled out of bed, going to our closet, throwing a shirt over my head, before making my way to the hall
There had no one else awake at that point, so the entire house was silent. Getting to the stairs, I smelt a very strong, foul odor... Something was burning...
I went down the stairs two at a time, wondering if something was on fire, and the house was going to burn down... Upon reaching the bottom, I skidded across the floor to the kitchen door, and I was met with a very... Interesting sight...
You were standing in the kitchen with a pink apron on, covered in flour, angrily slamming your fists on the counter. Beside you a scorched pastry sat, smoke coming off it like a chimney.
"...Hikaru... What are you doing?" I asked, rubbing my eyes in disbelief. You looked at me, eyes widening, aggravation and embarrassment evident.
"You're supposed to still be sleeping... Go back to bed!" You tried to hide the black charred mess, but it was too late.
"I woke up," I replied bluntly, "Now, what on earth were you trying to accomplish?" You looked down ashamed, refusing to meet my eyes.
"I was trying to bake you a cake... But nothing went right! Everything exploded on me, and the oven burnt the cake, and, and, ugh!" It was my turn to have my eyes widen.
"You didn't have to do that..."
"I know," you sighed, defeated, "But we always get the same everything, so I thought you might want your own cake, at the least..." I smiled widely, and over to you, my wonderful brother, arms outstretched. I hugged you tightly, and hesitantly, you hugged me back.
"What's this for? ...I screwed up..."
"I don't care! This is the best present ever!" I looked into your gold eyes, that reflected mine, "Happy Birthday Hikaru..."
"...Happy Birthday Kaoru..."
