Ludwig found Feliciano in his usually hiding place: the kitchen pantry. His back was turned towards him so he couldn't see the little guy's face, but it was obvious he was upset about something. His head was on his knees, and his little hair curl lay against his ear, which was now almost as red as the boy's hair. Next to Feliciano was a piece of paper with messy handwriting that was characteristic of all doctors. Getting down on one knee, Ludwig reached up and picked up the paper. "Hey what's this?" he asked.
"It's Honda's cancer test results," Feliciano sniffled. "He emailed a scan of them to me today just after he got them. They say he's got leukemia. Ludwig, he's gonna DIE!" Then just like that he started sobbing again. Ludwig read the paper, and just as he said, their best friend was now fighting cancer.
It had been a long time since they didn't see Honda at school. Most people thought he switched, but there were some that knew the truth. He had been in and out of the hospital four times now, and they just now figured it out. Ludwig had to say something…
"He's not gonna die," Ludwig said
"How do you know?" Feliciano said, not even looking up. "How do you know that the treatments are going to work?"
"Because we won't let it happen. Look, I know that we can't magically make the cancer go away, but we can other things, right?" He asked.
"Like what?" Now Feliciano had stopped crying, and he was looking at Ludwig now with a question mark all.
"Well, we can visit him every day; show him care, right? And then, and then…" He stopped what else could they do?
Feliciano gasped, "Then we can bring him pasta every night? Ooh, that would be so awesome. You think they'd let us bring food into the hospital?"
He smiled. "Only if we sneak it in, Come on let's make some pasta for Honda." With that, Ludwig got up and started getting the pasta down. While he put some water into a pot, something grabs him. "Thanks, Ludwig. I feel better now."
Ludwig smiled, at least he could be happy for a while…
