"Are you serious? You think Damon and Bonnie...?" Stefan trails off.
"Well... I love my brother I really do. But Bonnie needs someone to challenge her, to get her blood pumping and the closest Jeremy came was when he admitted to still have feelings for Anna." Elena arches up off his naked chest so she can look him in the eyes with sincerity when she utters her next words. "Damon deserves someone who will choose him first and always. Someone who would think there is no contest between you and him. "
"While I'm enjoying the fact that you have moved on to the point that you are actively searching to hook up your ex with someone else, thus letting me know that this is real and not just a dream..." He gives her a little squeeze and adjusts the white silk sheets closer around their naked forms. "I'm not sure this is the best place to have this conversation." He wiggles her against him in a suggestive manner until she flashes an annoyed frown. "OK, ok apparently you are taking this a little more seriously than I thought. I'll admit you have valid points but really Elena, they hate each other."
"Why does everyone say that?" She props her elbow on his chest and lays her head in her open palm.
"Really?" He chuckles at her scowling face. "They can barely stand to be in the same room together! I mean, it has gotten better but he still wants to destroy the world on a whim and she always tries to save it."
"Opposites attract and they are only explosive because they feel the pull and refuse to acknowledge it." She issues her cute 'duh' look that makes him nearly forget what they are talking about and spawns a desire to kiss away any thought of his brother out of her head, even if said thoughts were directed at pairing up his brother with someone besides herself.
Elena tucks her head into the crook of his shoulder and the silence stretches for a long while.
Stefan gives the relationship of his acrid humored brother and the 'usually' gentle witch some major consideration.
"You know," He begins with a tiny smile gracing his lips, "I think you're right. Damon is used to having every girl he has ever met throw herself at him. I think Bonnie baffles him a little. Maybe peaks his interest if not just his ire? And while Bonnie should truly hate him she still saves him and it's not JUST for you or me and it's not JUST because of her kind heart. Like us, they could be something great. Have something great, if they would just let themselves."
Elena sighs into his neck. "Yeh, it's almost like they are meant to be…if the powers that BE would just let them…"
