AN: Roxas82 thinks there's a lack of Freddie's POV when it comes to Carly/Sam. So *you*, yes you, are going to get the chance now to *be* him via 2nd person. Let me know how I'm doing after you read by clicking the review button? Thanks!
Part One
You sit staring at the hero photograph for at least ten minutes before tossing it aside with a sigh and hitting your back against the headboard behind you a little harder than intended in a forced effort to relax. Not even a year has passed since you rescued Carly from the taco truck and got a short taste of what it would be like to have her as your girlfriend. The cast has been off for months, but every moment you started to believe Carly was finally prepared to prove Sam wrong about her bacon theory was a lie. Sam invented the theory to make dating Carly feel filthy to you when it was her who was playing dirty. Perhaps that accusation comes off a little strong, but Carly thinks she is in love with Sam now, and you know that wouldn't have happened if you had tried for a relationship while her lips were still very much willingly attached to yours at every opportunity.
They didn't even bother to tell you when they started dating, and that's what hurts more. Even if Carly still doesn't want you as a boyfriend after saving her life, you consider her your closest friend, and you haven't forgotten the three-way promise to never keep another secret. Walking in on them kissing in the iCarly studio during a scheduled rehearsal time makes no sense as an accident. Carly insisted they lost track of time and that it was the last way they would have wanted you to find out. She has always been a bad liar, and part of you wonders why Sam didn't try to explain it away instead. You would bet your PearPad they chose to speak with actions instead of words, because Sam probably couldn't care less if you talked it out, and Carly puts off mentioning anything that could be labeled bad news as long as possible.
It turns out Spencer knew from the very first day, because Sam was supposed to be staying the night when whatever special moment they had happened, and she left ham in the fridge that normally would have been a midnight snack. When you ran into him on your way out after the studio incident he asked if you needed to talk, and it was obvious he already knew everything before sharing his story about when Carly first told him. Everyone at school is still oblivious, or you are assuming this, because you should have been the first to notice before any peers considering how much more time you spend with them. As far as you know, the viewers of iCarly are none the wiser either, and even if a couple are they usually can manage to be ignored by the thousands of other comment-writing fans.
Instinct says to blame Sam. Her luck with boyfriends has been at least as bad as your luck with girlfriends, and nothing speaks more to this than the fact you shared a mutual first kiss to get it over with. When Carly judges the shallow flaws of her boyfriends, Sam encourages it through her laughter, like when Jake made ears bleed with his singing or Griffin's happiest moment was defined by the winning of a Pee Wee Babies auction. She must think she deserves Carly more than you because there's no other way to justify ignoring the feelings she's always known you had. It might even be a relief to say there was a reason she has treated you like crap all along, a purpose to her disregard for the default expectation of mutual respect between two people who share a best friend. The silent competition for Carly's heart was one you were unaware of for too long. Carly's open boy-crazy attitude had you fooled, and as much as you once resisted considering Sam a girl before, you're ready to call her one now.
