"So let me get this straight…" the auburn haired girl sat next to the blond on the bed. They both had retreated into her room as soon as Caroline and her mom had arrived at her uncle's home.

Charlie Swan - a mild mannered man - was someone Caroline had, before the random animal attacks that started in Mystic Falls, never been a relative mentioned to her.

Her mother was convinced that she wanted a 'time off' from her animal-problem. So she took her on a road trip to a place even more boring and smaller on the maps than Mystic Falls.

Apparently Forks out-won her hometown in boringness.

Her cousin, Bella, continued. "Animal attacks have been happening for about three months... but only now that your history teacher has been found dead, did your mum decide to relocate you to Forks?"

"It's not relocation!" answered Caroline stubbornly. "We're just here until the animal is caught!"

Bella looked at her doubtingly. "But you just said yourself that you're mum will probably return home in a few days... because she is the towns sheriff. So this means that she'll leave you here..."

Caroline looked like she just realised her predicament too. She bit the nail on her thumb as she looked thoughtful, "I knew it!"

She got up from the bed, not looking at her confused cousin. With steady and large steps ran Caroline down the stairs to the living room. She found her mother sitting on the couch with Charlie. Caroline frowned angrily at her mother.

"You're leaving me here!" said Caroline, not putting it like a question.

"Caroline, not now!" said her mother sternly.

"No, now!" answered Caroline stubbornly. "When were you going to tell me?"

Liz looked at her daughter, with calm resolution. "Caroline. Stop your drama."

"So what? Were you just going to leave me in the dead of night... like dad did to us?" Her brows were drawn together in anger.

"Caroline. Stop now!" Her mother got up from the couch.

She seemed to ignore or forget that Charlie was still in the room with them. But Charlie had the decency to look like her would have liked being anywhere else.

"You know that I'm the sheriff of Mystic Falls. You know that I can only take that much days off... But you have two weeks in which I don't want to see you get hurt... Please Caroline. Just once, be reasonable and do what I asked you to... I really don't want to have to worry about you too. I have enough problems to solve."

Her mother looked beggingly at her daughter. It was a look Caroline never really had seen on her mothers face. For a moment she was floored, then she stuttered the reply her mother had wanted all along.

"Well... uh, ok... I guess?"

Caroline stormed off just like she had come into the room before. She returned to her cousins room, but decided that talk time was over. Instead they sat silently next to each other, reading old magazines.

Caroline had the feeling that the next two weeks would be the most boring she would ever experience.
