All that Matters
...
"Riku... please..." Xion mumbled into Riku's back, voice hoarse. Riku blinked a bit as he woke up—but was wide awake as soon as he felt the heat radiating off of Xion.
He turned around to look at her, worry washing over him as he noticed her flushed face and glassy eyes. His hand went to her forehead immediately, but he hardly needed the extra confirmation.
"Xion—you're on fire!"
Xion coughed, burying her face into her pillow and mumbling something that sounded vaguely like, "Water."
Riku all but ran out of the bed and into the kitchen to find her some medicine and something cold to drink. She'd taken care of him in the past when he'd been feverish—though that had been from an injury, not an illness—so it was the least he could do to return the favor.
When he returned to their bedroom, Xion was still mumbling to herself deliriously.
What he could understand, however, chilled him to the bone.
"...Just the imaginary number. Not even real. If only one can stay... should be him. I don't deserve reality. I'm not even... Just a puppet."
Riku bit his lip as he sat down beside her on the bed. She wasn't conscious of what she was saying—she most likely wasn't even aware he was there beside her. But he was, and that was all that really mattered.
"Here, Xion. Drink this. It'll make you feel better..."
He has to hold her head up and help her swallow the medicine, but once it's down she settles a bit and goes quiet. All he can hear is her breathing, in and out.
Unconsciously, his hand reaches for hers and clasps it tightly.
"You're real enough for me, Xion."
He knows she can't hear him. That's okay—it's the truth, and that's all that matters.
When she wakes up, he'll make sure she knows it.

Author: It's been a while since I wrote a one-shot for these two... So I went to a random word generator for some ideas. Well, the first word I got was "illness." So there you have it. :)
I also wanted to write something Riku/Xion related as a gift for Amatus, y'know, since it's her birthday. ^-^ (Well, not counting the other story I wrote for her as well, which doesn't exactly have any fluffy Riku/Xion interactions in it. 'Cause Riku and Xion are barely mentioned in it at all. XD)
