"All right, you're given me pumpkin pie, which is my favorite. Whatever you what is yours as far as I'm concerned," Race lay his head on Spot's shoulder and nuzzled his neck.
Spot took a deep breath and lifted Race's chin so that they were eye-to-eye. "Babe, I was talking to Jack and he asked me if I could honestly see myself with anyone else for the rest of my life. Since you were my first boyfriend, I had to think for a while, and I came to a conclusion that scared me, but-"
Race jumped in, "Spot, I'm sorry that I'm grumpy in the morning. And I didn't mean to burn your birthday cake. And I lied, about how your truck got banged up, I rammed it into the side of the garage door. Spot," Race's eyes lowered to the floor, "please don't break up with me."
"Break up with-" Spot laughed. "Race, you are an idiot." Seeing Race's sigh, he hurried on, "But I love that about you. I'm not breaking up with you. The answer scared me because I knew I had to do this." From his pocket, Spot pulled a small box.
Race stared for a moment in disbelief. "Wha-"
Spot got down on one knee and took Race's hand. "Race…Anthony. I have loved you since I met you. And I honestly know there's no one else in the whole goddamn world I could spend the rest of my life with. So, if you feel the same way, I'm asking you to please marry me."
Race's tears overflowed as he nodded, whispering, "Yes. I'll marry you. Oh Spot," Race took Spot's face in his hands and kissed him. "I love you."
Spot opened the box and showed Race the ring.
A four-leaf clover was made of tiny green gemstones and the words "To Race: King of My Heart" were engraved on the inside of the silver band.
Race started chuckling, "You're not going to believe this." From his pocket he withdrew a ring with a Celtic design and the words "To Spot: My Lucky Star" engraved on its band.
Spot fought back tears and laughed. "Guess we went to the same person for help, didn't we?"
Race nodded. "Great minds think alike, huh?" He slid the ring onto Spot's finger and kissed his boyfriend's hand.
Spot slid the ring he bought onto Race's finger. "I love you."
"I love you too."
