Fatal Choice

James Norrington did not believe in fate.

He believed your future was created by your own choices, he believed you had control of your own destiny.

James Norrington would not believe in fate.

He found other things to explain his unpredictable life, blamed himself for his predicaments and ignored the way his life was subtlety manoeuvred, manipulated and directed.

James Norrington could not believe in fate.

He was a soldier, he believed in cause and effect, action and consequence. He couldn't understand fate. He couldn't understand Elizabeth.

Just because James Norrington ignored fate didn't mean fate ignored him. By the time he had realised this it was too late.

"What are you doing?" She had asked him.

"Choosing a side." James had replied.

But by now he knew that, really, it wasn't a choice at all.
