Jake Barton scanned his eyes around the small hospital room, taking in the scene playing out in front of him. His wife was on the bed, looking exhausted but ecstatically happy at the same time.

His mother Grace and her mother Julie were either side of the blonde, chatting like they had been best friends for years. Little Ruby was sitting on the end of the bed, beside his brother Alex, an inquisitive look on her face, curls of mousy brown hair (still tossing up whether it would be blonde like Rachel and Nathan's or dark like Ben's), observing her sister, as Nathan twirled one of her curls around his finger, making her giggle. Coby was in the corner, looking slightly out of place, but more a part of the family than he had at Ruby's birthday party. Ted and Chel were speaking about their own children as newborns, hardly believing that they were great grandparents. Ben was holding the newborn in his arms, cooing to her like she was the only one in the world.

But Dave was just looking at the newborn, as if he was unsure how to approach her.

"Any advice, boss?" Jake asked, in a quiet but hopeful voice. He had thought about this moment ever since Rachel had announced her pregnancy- would he be able to be there for his little girl? His father had left when he was a little boy, leaving Grace to raise Jake and his younger brother.

Dave looked him in the eye, bright blue meeting chocolate brown. "That little girl", he began, "Will believe that you climbed up there and hung the moon up yourself. No matter what you do, she will always forgive you, and in her eyes, you will be the king. No matter how many boys are in her life, you will always be number one".

"Thanks, Dave", Jake uttered, as his brother in law passed the infant back to her father. He pressed a gentle kiss to her tiny forehead, hardly believing that anyone could be so small. He had seen Ruby as a newborn, but did not remember her being as small as his Shelby Grace was.

She was his. And if she believed that he climbed up and hung the moon in the sky, he would do all be could to prove it.

Only an hour old, and already she had him wrapped around her little finger.
