Garrus waited patiently as the elevator made its way to the floor of Shepards private cabin. He smoothed the fabric of the civvies he wore as the doors opened but he was surprised to see Liara standing there. He almost ran into her as he stepped out. "Liara? What a surprise! What are you doing on the Normandy? I'm, uh, not interrupting something am I?" Spirits he really hoped not. Liara shook her head. "No. Nothing like that. Just visiting an old friend." She said but he noticed sadness in her voice. "Oh. Well then, I hope we see more of you in the future." He said. Liara nodded. "Yes. Me as well." She walked past him to board the elevator but stopped and whispered. "I hope you bring each other true happiness." Before stepping inside and pushing a button to close the door.
The door slid open and Garrus found Shepard sitting on her bed. She looked up in surprise. "Garrus? I wasn't expecting you. Everything okay?" She asked. "Yeah. Everythings fine. I was just checking on you. I heard you went to visit Liara at the Shadow Brokers base and I know that must have been difficult. I never expected to see her here though. Everything okay with you?" Shepard smiled sadly. "I'm fine." She said but the tear that fell down her face said otherwise. He was still learning about humans but even he knew what that meant. She paused before continuing. "I just broke it off with Liara." Shepards voice broke as she talked.
He rushed to side. "Hey..." He said softly, catching the tear as it slid down her cheek. "Its okay to be upset." He told her. Suddenly, her face crumpled in pain. "Shhhhh..." He whispered and put his arms around her waist. "I know it hurts." She pressed her face into his chest and he rubbed her back until the sobs became hiccups and she calmed down. "I'm sorry. I hate crying. A commander is supposed to be stronger than this." She said. He lifted her chin up so that she had to look him in the eyes. "You are the strongest person I've ever known. Emotions are NOT weakness. Never apologize for showing your feelings." He suddenly remembered in the vids he watched that humans liked something called kissing in which they pressed their mouths together. He leaned down and lightly pressed his mouth plates against her lips. She responded by gripping the fabric of his shirt and moving her lips on his. She started remove her dress but he stopped her. "Not just yet. I want our first time to be perfect." She smiled up at him in agreement.
"Did you ever think you would choose to be with a human?" She asked. "Mmmm. No. I said before though, it's not about that. It's about us." Shepard nodded. "I just want you to be happy." She said softly. "You make me happy." Shepard smiled but then looked down sadly. "I hope she's okay." Garrus rubbed her cheek. "Liara is not one to hold a grudge and she's honest about her feelings. If she were upset, she would say it." Shepard sighed and looked up at him. "Will you stay with me tonight? Nothing sexual. I don't want to be alone." Garrus agreed. He waited for her to change and layed down with her. Shepard cuddled into his side and he laid a blanket over her. "Thank you checking on me." She said. "You can tell me anything, Shepard. I don't care when it is, if you're upset. You know where to find me." She nodded. "And vice-versa." She said before drifting off.
