A/N: I have decided to make a few short drabbles/one-shots for LaPagie's 101 Prompts challenge, I might skip a few, but hopefully I'll have most of them done! I'll update somewhat less than frequently - this is more just for fun and randomness :) The title "Gift of a Friend" is named after Demi's new song (it's leaked on Youtube, go listen to it!) which is AMAZING and completely powerful... I literally cried the first time I heard it (mostly because of the lyrics and my situation, long story lol). So go look it up, it's worth listening to. Anyway, enjoy & please review! :)
Disclaimer: Yeah, I don't own CR or "Gift Of A Friend"
Drabble 1: "The Gift of a Friend"
Prompt #1- Friends
Mitchie Torres and Shane Gray; best friends since kindergarten. Ever since Shane had tried steal Mitchie's crayons and she'd told him off, which had resulted in him getting yelled at, he'd marveled at the fact that it was so easy for her to treat him normal. He'd been born into fame and most people wanted to suck up to him - yes, even at a mere seven years old, he had people trying to manipulate him (so, back then bribes counted as cookies, so what could he say?). But no, not Mitchie. She'd never treated him any different then she treated anyone else, and that was something that had him both curious of her and an instant liking.
He was there through the ups and the downs - when she needed someone to cry too, when she wanted a good laugh, or even when she just wanted to hang out. He was always there; even with the tours and the pressure of fame, he made time for her.
She was always there when he needed her - whether it was because he was homesick and on tour too long, or if he was having a bad day, or if he just needed to hear her voice. She never let him down; he'd seen her ditch her other friends to be by his side the instant he said her name. That was just their relationship. She was there for him, and he was there for her.
When her long-time boyfriend broke up with her when she was sixteen, he was her shoulder to cry on, comforting her through the long days of breaking down, sobbing, and confusion. He'd collected her homework from school, he'd made her food and brought it up to her bed, and he'd smiled at the thought that maybe, just maybe, they could be a couple now. He couldn't help but wish they were, even though he knew that she didn't view him that way. They were just best friends.
When his girlfriend Tess broke up with him, she was there to cheer him up, even though she'd hated Tess. Instead of being happy that her long time best friend and long time enemy had broken up, she sympathized with him and even felt bad for them. That's just what best friends were supposed to do. As much as she would have liked to jump and shout for joy that Tess was finally gone, she knew that would be wrong. And so, despite everything, she truly felt bad that they'd broken up, because she'd made him happy.
It was the gift of having a friend; as much as they'd both thought they could make it on their own, once they'd met each other, they knew that you needed a friend. It wasn't just a matter of wanting - they needed each other to survive.
"Best friends forever." Shane smiled as he carved his and Mitchie's names into the tree, along with the "BFF", and watched as Mitchie grinned, throwing her arms around his neck and hugging him, laughing.
"You're the best friend anyone could ever ask for." She whispered, smiling brightly at their intertwined names. Shane glanced at her, finally pulling his knife away from the tree and giving her a cocky smile.
"Yeah," He grinned, "I know I am."
There you guys go! Short, sweet, and to the point! Review? :)
