fly
(A Kurt/Pavarotti centric)
2x06-2x16
Glee club was a nest of sorts. They were all in the same place, all just needing somewhere safe to be (somewhere to feel safe even though nests are forty feet above the ground and easily knocked out of trees by mentally-prehistoric football players).
So, they were all in their little nest, singing to their little hearts' content.
.
But even before it's time for the birds to leave, they try flying. Just to try itâknowing that when they're tired of the freedom, they still have someplace to land safe and sound.
Except sometimes, there are others who are bigger and nastier and try to hurt them. Hawks and doves, don't they realize they are all just birds?
His wings broke. He couldn't have flown away to someplace beyond rainbows and rain even if he wanted to. (His spirit was breaking too).
"Keep me safe," he thinks. "Put him behind bars."
A jail cell for him would have been nice, but a bird cage works well too. There's still bars between them and this way, they're nicely gilded. Any major fashion designer would have approved.
There's a flash of fear still, even with the bars. The feathers falling out again, those sunken eyes, no food or water needed. Like he wasn't there.
But he's just molting. His feathers shed to grow in new ones, like camouflage. Which one am I now?
Just try, try to find the rare and colorful peacock among the Warblers now.
.
Sound can still escape from behind bars, whether jailed or gilded. He sings.
.
Even dead, even at night, when all the candles are blown out, he sang.
.
Eventually, that cage door will open. Those wings will be healed. And he'll fly.
I've been meaning to write something like this since Never Been Kissed (2x06) and I finally did on a rush after seeing darling Pavarotti...die. *sniff*. Undoubtedly, I'll rewrite this re-upload within the next few days, but I feel the urge to publish immediately.
Please read and review!
