Ice Cream

With a sigh, Hermione sank into her couch in the living room of her flat, closing her eyes and rubbing her head. It had been a long day at the Ministry. Her proposed bill on Anti-Racism toward Centaurs wasn't forming like she had hoped it would, and the research and drafting she thought would only take a few days was turning into a much longer task. According to her aids, it would take at least two more weeks to perfect before she could take it to the Wizengamot. Just thinking about it was giving her a migraine, and the clanking sounds of dishes being washed coming from the kitchen wasn't helping. Breathing deeply, she found herself drifting off to a happier place, full of laughing children and wedding bells….

She was jolted out of her sleep by the sound of light footsteps crossing over the dark cherry wood floor into the living room. Cracking her eyes open, she saw her boyfriend of two years, Harry Potter, leaning against the doorway in a blue sweater and dark jeans. "Hey….I didn't mean to wake you love…I actually didn't know you were asleep…" he trailed off to a bright smile, his hands behind his back.

"I'm sorry Harry…it's just this bill isn't going how it's supposed too, and I'm also working on reducing the tension between wizards and muggles and…" she was hushed by Harry, who held up one of his hands.

"Don't worry 'Mione. Knowing you, you'll have the bill done in a week and passed through the Wizengamot faster than anyone else has ever done before….and then it'll be a total success just like everything you do, and you'll somehow remain just as beautiful as ever." Kissing the top of her head, he kneeled down in front of her, stroking her cheek lightly. One hand was still behind his back.

Leaning into his hand she sighed softly, closing her eyes. "Why are you so good to me?" It had been one of her insecurities since the beginning. Why would Harry choose her when he could have any girl in the world?

He smirked, kissing her softly. "Because I love you. And…you're the most beautiful girl I've ever known."

She smiled…"Oh Harry I—Harry, what's behind your back?"

He smiled again. "Well…I know you're a little frazzled right now because of this bill….and I know what always makes you feel better so…" from behind his back came one gigantic ice cream sundae "I made you something special."

"Oh Harry…." She smiled, throwing her arms around him and kissing the top of his head while he chuckled. "I knew I loved you for a reason. I hope you brought two spoons."

He nodded again, chuckling. "Of course."

Sitting down next to each other, his arm around her, her leaning into the crook of his neck, they ate in comfortable silence, laughing at each other from time to time. A fire crackled into life in front of them, and outside the window behind them, a light snow began to fall. Life was perfect. And what could bring you closer together than an Ice Cream Sunday really?
