In the End

A/N: This is a story that I thought of while listening to Linkin Park's In the End, hence the title.

Disclaimer: I own neither Harry Potter nor Linkin Park's In the End.

Summery: A look into how Harry feels about the war now that it's over.

In the End
By vampyreice

Albus Dumbledore, the greatest wizard ever known since Merlin himself or so they say, headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry had just sat down after inviting the students to start eating their dinner. Hogwarts was said to be one of the finest schools of Witchcraft and Wizardry under one of the finest headmasters it had ever seen. It was also supposed to be the safest place in the world apart from Gringotts so everyone was surprised when the doors of the Great hall slammed open revealing a menacing looking figure in a black cloak that showed nothing of the strangers' identity.

Everyone watched as the figure walked up till they were level with Dumbledore. The hall watched with baited breath as the figure reached into his cloak. Many feared the worst as the war had only just come to an end and quite a lot of people had paranoid tendencies. An audible sigh was heard when the only thing the stranger pulled out was an envelope, the envelope was given to Dumbledore who took it with a curious look on his face. Not only did Dumbledore not know who this was but he had no idea as to why they would be handed him an envelope. Dumbledore carefully opened the envelope and began to read the contents. With all eyes focussed on Dumbledore reading the letter no one noticed when the stranger walked back to the door and waited there till Dumbledore looked up.

When Dumbledore finished reading the letter he looked up with calculating eyes. Before he or anyone else could speak a song started to play, those who were familiar with muggle music realised that it was Linkin Park that was playing and more importantly their song In the End. Some students, the less than bright ones, thought that it was funny that the stranger would play this song when the war had just ended. Some student, the ones who were less bright than the less than bright ones, thought it was weird that music just started playing out of nowhere.

(A/N: Due to the RESTRICTIONS I am unable to post the lyrics but if you want to see them just look up Linkin Park's In the End.)

When the music stopped there was a moment of thoughtful silence and the stranger realising that his work was done turned and left, slamming the doors shut behind him. The students awoke from their thoughts and immediately started talking amongst themselves as to who the stranger could be and why he chose that song. No one asked what that song represented as they all got the meaning quite clearly. The stranger had obviously put his trust in the headmaster who had done something that had made him lose the stranger's trust and something or someone very valuable to the stranger. The stranger was wondering if all that he had been through was worth it in the end now that he had lost that valuable thing. If anyone had taken note of the headmaster they would have seen him speak a single word.

"Harry."
