Ignorant Illusions

They had been scornful
He was the child of the devil they said
But in fact they should have been mournful
Their hate filled the boy with dread

He was not dumb
Nor was he the Devil's son
He was a child of none
Because of his deafness he was shunned

They did not understand
When he lashed out in frustration
From The Church he was banned
He fled because of their intimidation

Alone he died
For him no one cried
To him they had been snide
Because they never even tried

The Medieval boy died alone
Many others died like him
For a problem that had been unknown
Feared by the ones who were truly dim
