Untouchable
Summary: They were all untouchable, in their own way.
Disclaimer: I don't own Yu Yu Hakusho.
Warnings: None.
Author's Note: I'm on a roll! I was in the mood for a character analysis, so I thought, why the hell not? I had some trouble ending this, and it's short, but whatever. Read and review? :]
All of them had barriers between themselves and other people. People that didn't quite understand them. Yusuke wore his delinquent status on his sleeve, and people usually avoided him because in this world, status was everything. If someone was a lower status, then you wouldn't want to associate with them, now would you? He was, in a word, untouchable.
Kurama wore his smile as a suit of armor between himself and the rest of the world. He was terrified of the people he cared about finding out what he was really like. If he didn't pretend, then he was letting them down in some way, he thought.
At one time, Kuwabara's barrier was just as powerful as Yusuke's. He was a delinquent, but he cared about his future. Unlike Urameshi, he still had a potential to be saved. His aura wasn't as frightening, didn't scream, Back off! Like Yusuke's. He was, perhaps, the most open out of the spirit detectives. He wore his heart on his sleeve, and everyone knew it.
Hiei wore an indifferent expression like a mask, pretended as though he didn't care about anyone – especially himself. But on the inside, he was kinder then he let on. Once a person earned his trust, he would rather die then betray that person. He would fight for them, protect them, because he cared. He just didn't express it in the way normal people did. He pretended to be ice, but he was really fire – burning brightly, passionately.
When the Spirit Detectives were together, for just a while, those barriers fell. Truly, the only people that could reach them were ones that understood. They understood each other, treaded around sensitive topics like skating on ice, yet supported when was needed. They all met through a chain of strange events, but that chain had linked them all together.
And it would never break.
