Our conversation ended. She stood seeing something I didn't.
She took off running, the years melting away.
Then I saw him as the sun bounced off his lemon hair. A small boy with out stretched arms.
***A small obvious note***
the boys name was Rudy
I recognized him, he was the only soul I ever caught that pushed me away, but could not go back.
--
I stood in the gutter that had ounce been their homes. I was collecting everyone in sight.
I saw the book thief that day, she sat broken and crying next to him, his dead dust covered body. He was one of those rare souls that were standing. Those were always the strongest. He fought against me and won, but his body could no longer abstain life.
He watched his face twisted in a very weird expretion. I watched over my shoulder, I had work to do, but I just couldn't look away from that pour stranded soul.
His face had a smile and horror on it. He watched as she proclaimed her love and shook him. If ghost could cry, he would have been. She bent down and kissed him softly. He lifted his hand to his lips, he looked like he was going to die from a broken heart. (figuratively speaking)
She kissed him again and stood. I was amazed by her, the strength it probably took for her to walk away. She made it look easy. She stood with her back to him and as she walked she said one final word to him
I will always be amazed by humans.
***The final word***
Goodbye
I looked at the boy his face in only horror, he fell to his knees and screamed. The world didn't deserve the kind of love they had.
--
"Rudy, oh Rudy!" She screamed when she collided with him.
Me and that boy had crossed paths all the time, he always followed her, he tried to comfort her when she cried and pushed along when she wanted to stop.
I talked to him many times, he said he would let me take him when I took her, I decided it was a fair that he get his way, besides he would over power me again and that would be embarrassing.
I'm sure you don't want to hear me rambal, back to our scene.
He whispered in her ear the sweetest things, "I saw you kiss me Leisel, I saw you cry and I watched you become happy, I kept believing in you. I watched you grow up, your were so beautiful, I watched you get married and have children, I even watched you play with your grand children." She smiled and pulled back.
He leaned forward and kissed her.
I took them both like that, in each other's arms.
Be heaven, hell or limbo, it was the only place that truly deserved them and their love.
She turned to me as I took her and said the only words that have ever been said to me, the only words that will ever be said to me.
***The only words***
you deserve to come too
I prayed for them, for the first time in my life, I prayed for them to see their families and the Jew. I prayed that they would go somewhere nice, where there's always enough books and food, where flowers grow and it never snows, where the running track never ends and they'll never tire.
I would never forget them, I walked away and to continue my job with a smile on my face, and I have never stopped smiling.
I loved that book SO much and I thought the two deserved a semi-happy-ending after all they went through
