A knock sounded on Peyton's black bedroom door, but the blonde didn't respond right away. In her pause, her visitor stepped easily into the room, familiar with it to the point of practically owning it themselves.

"Peyton Sawyer? Reading?" A sarcastic Brooke said with a smile, sauntering over to her friend's bed. Peyton looked up from her book.

"What? I'm not allowed to read anymore?" She asked. Brooke smiled again then, sitting down opposite the taller girl on the bed.

"No… It's just not something I really do. If you're not veggin' out and listening to music, then you're drawing and listening to music. I never see you with books." This time, Peyton was the one to smile, the grin amused. She sighed.

"Lucas loaned it to me. He insisted I read it." The blonde stuck her thumb in the book, marking the page, and showed the cover to Brooke. The brunette rolled her eyes. "He's not very subtle, is he?" Peyton asked. Brooke shook her head.

"No. He's not." Then she thought for a moment. "Maybe it's a Scott thing?" Peyton laughed at this, closing the book all the way and sitting up. She grinned.

"I think you might be on to something there, B. Davis."

* * *

Peyton examined her face in the mirror or the bathroom in her bedroom while Brooke lay silently on the blonde's bed. She was waiting for the brunette to say something.

"Peyton?" Peyton smiled. Like clockwork

"Yeah?" She asked.

"If you and me ever got married, what name would we use?" Peyton stopped her examination process cold, leaning back and staring at Brooke from around the doorway.

"What?" She asked. "Brooke, where did that come from?" Brooke shrugged, leaning her head back so that she could see Peyton, then she returned her gaze to the blonde's ceiling.

"I dunno. I just was putting names together and I couldn't decide how ours would go." Peyton eyed Brooke for a moment, then returned to her mirror.

"Sawyer." She said slowly.

"How come?"

"To be honest?" Peyton asked. "Because I like the way Brooke Sawyer sounds better than Peyton Davis." Peyton paused for a moment, waiting for Brooke's reaction. The brunette smiled warmly, not sure how she felt about her sudden fascination with the sound of Peyton's last name attached to the end of her own. Peyton smiled too, proceeding to apply thick eyeliner to her bottom lash-line. "I know." She said "I like it as much as you do."
