Chapter 1: The Letter
a letter from Lord Asriel:
Dear Dr. George Blue,
Hello, Dr. Blue. My daughter, Lyra Belacqua or Lyra Silvertongue, is in need of some assistance. A friend of hers, Billy Costa (he's Gyptian), was terribly taken to Bolvangar for Intercision by the Gobblers. This horrible thing about intercision, Dr. Blue, is that it takes your daemon away. And Billy's daemon, I'm sorry to say, was taken away. I have heard that you have studied what happens when your daemon is taken away. I am sending Lyra, Roger (that's her really close friend) and Billy to you. Because, we've found out that when intercision happens and the after effects are very severe. It appears that Billy is deathly ill, and his daemon must be returned to him. I hope you can do this, because if not, Billy unfortunately, will die.

Letter from Dr. Blue to Lord Asriel:
Dear Lord Asriel,
I have heard of the effects of intercision and have even studied about Dust. But, I may not be able to save his life. It is terrible to have your daemon taken away, but it will be very difficult to remeld his daemon back into him. And his daemon, may not be the same anymore. I accept this challenge. If everything goes well, Billy will be back to normal (hopefully) and I will send him, Roger, and Lyra back.
