A/N: It's a sappy thing that hit at like 2am one morning.
To my guy. I can't imagine my life without you.
A Light in The Darkness
She wakes in the night, feeling the weight of more blankets than should be necessary. There is still a chill running through her veins, but it's weaker than before. With a grunt, she pushes the top two covers off and reaches for Castle.
He's farther away than she likes, so she shifts toward him, touching the smooth skin of his chest. His arm stretches protectively over her and pulls her close, murmuring into her hair as he does so.
She settles into him, thinking of her life, and how much it has changed. How he has been there, always by her side, even when she didn't know.
"I love you," she whispers, kissing his shoulder and up to his jaw, "I don't know how I lived before you came into my life, but I am so thankful - so very thankful - the universe brought us together."
She kisses his lips, smiling at the slow, almost robot-like way he responds to her in his sleep.
"I wish I was better with words, so I can tell you, or find some way make you understand how much you mean to me."
Castle rolls onto his back, and she snuggles in, resting her head on his shoulder. She listens to the slow beat of his heart, feels the warmth of him, and revels in the life flowing between them.
"You are my heart," she admits softly, then adds, "and my soul."
She watches the rise and fall of his chest, feeling lighter and so completely infatuated with this man. It fills her up, completes her. It's kind of frightening, this feeling that is so overwhelming, and yet, it's everything.
"In everything that has ever happened to me, as long as you have been a part of my life, you have always been the light guiding my way."
He pats her on the head and ruffles her hair, obviously still asleep, and mumbles, "Okay, 'night."
Kate shakes her head, loving him just a little more. She'll find some way to show him, to tell him this again, when the sun rises, and everyday for the rest of her life.
