A/N: Just a silly little thing I thought of while waiting for my pasta to cook. Two days ago. I'm slow at getting around to write these things down... oh well! Anywho, enjoy, and, as a bit of totally unnecessary information, this is my first Daniel/Janet story.
Daniel was nervous. Really, really nervous. He felt like a high school kid about to ask the beauty queen of the school out on a date. Which, in fact, wasn't too far from the truth. Quickly scanning the room for some kind of threat, Daniel finally got up the courage to knock on the door. 'Come in,' Janet said from the other side. Daniel took a final, deep breath, and said to himself you can do this and opened the door. 'Hi, Daniel,' Janet said, as she saw who entered her office. 'What can I do for you?'
'Well, um… you see, I was wondering if…' Daniel began, and before he could finish, in typical cliché fashion, the klaxons started blaring, announcing an off-world activation, and the intercom voice said 'Medical team to the gate room.' Janet was out of her chair at the drop of a pin, and rushed past Daniel, blurting out 'Sorry, come back a bit later.' Daniel silently cursed SG-17, the only team currently off-world, and set off towards the Gate room himself.
--
A few hours later, the member of SG-17 who had broken his leg falling off a large piece of ruin had been attended too, and Janet was finally free. Daniel, once again going through the above-mentioned process, knocked at her door. 'Come in,' came the same reply. Daniel once again took a deep breath, and opened the door.
'Hi, Janet,' Daniel said.
'Oh, hi Daniel. Sorry about having to have to run out on you like that…' Janet responded. 'Now, what was it you wanted to ask me?'
'Well, I was wondering if you…' Daniel begun, but was cut of by Janet's phone ringing. Oh for the love of!
'Sorry,' Janet said apologetically, as she picked up the phone. 'Doctor Frasier. Oh, hi Sam. Yes, of course we are. OK, good. See you then. Bye.'
Well, could have been worse, Daniel thought.
'So, you were saying?' Janet asked.
'Um, well, what I was meaning to ask, and have been meaning to ask for, um… well, what I suppose I mean is that I was kinda wondering if you'd perhaps, somewhat would…' Daniel stuttered on, until Janet almost cried out, in a very Jack O'Neill-ish fashion, 'Oh, just spit it out, Daniel!'.
'Yes, um… would you like to have dinner with me Friday night?' Daniel asked, and suddenly a huge wave of relief washed over him. Ha! I finally did it!
'Oh…' Janet said. Oh?! Did she just say 'Oh'? Oh, that can't be good, Daniel thought, and the wave of relief that had, moments earlier washed over him now washed back into the sea. 'Well, um, I kinda have plans for Friday night,' Janet explained.
Oh shit! I knew it! I mean, why on Earth would she possibly be interested in me! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go dial a black hole and jump though the Gate! Daniel thought.
'Me, Sam and Cassie had planned a girls night out,' Janet said.
Oh thank God! THANK YOU!! 'Oh,' was, however, all that came out of Daniels mouth.
'Hey, why not on Saturday. Unless, of course, you have some other arrangements, Janet said.
'What? Me, no, of course not! It's not like I have a life,' Daniel said, without thinking. Janet laughed at what Daniel had just said, and at the face Daniel made when he realised what he had just said.
Daniel coughed. 'Um, yes… uh, well… Saturday. I'll pick you up at 7:30. Um… see you then,' he said before he bolted out of the room, leaving behind a very amused Janet.
