Blossoms
Cherry blossom petals danced with the wind, twisting and turning with a harsh elegance. The cyclone of pinks contrasted with the blue of the sky, adding more of a tranquil feeling to the island. The beach was littered with driftwood and play swords, some of the wood made up a makeshift shack, ladders, and bridges. Palm trees lay rooted beside the odd blossoms that grew from the only other type of tree on the island.
It was a pretty sight.
"Hey," said a silver-haired boy, waving a hand in front of his companion, "You've been zoning out for ten minutes."
His friend, a spiky-haired brunette, shook his head slightly in surprise and smiled. "Sorry about that." He rubbed the back of his neck bashfully before setting his cerulean eyes back upon the view that they both had from the oddly growing tree that sat on the small land mass that was connected to the other by a large bridge. "I just never realized how nice it is during blooming season."
The other agreed, nodding. "It's different, isn't it?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well..." He chuckled a bit, looking up at the cloudless sky, not looking at the sky that was sat right next to him. Aquamarine eyes gleamed as he continued, "After two years of being away from this place, you start to realize what you took for granted back then, eh?"
"Yeah, I guess." A shrug and then a pause. "But you always kind of take things for granted. It doesn't matter whether or not you acknowledge it..."
The silver-haired boy flicked his bangs from in front of his face before saying, "Not really. Take the cherry blossoms: They live and they die, but they still look beautiful, don't they?"
"Yeah..."
"So," smirked the boy, leaning in to make sure his point got across, "they're not taking anything for granted, right?"
"You never know; they could."
The silver-haired one ruffled the brunette's hair, laughing. "You've been spending too much time in Wonderland."
"One time! One time and you can never let it go!"
The boys laughed and the wind howled. A circle of pink petals soared over the sea and became nothing, nothing more.
