The Seating Plan
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto
Sasuke glanced around the room, looking for an empty seat. He could see girls waving over to him excitedly, screaming his name. He scowled, not one seat came without a seat partner. He wished he had arrived earlier. A flash of purple caught his eye. Sasuke blinked. Shoving his hands into his pockets, he made his way to the back corner of the classroom.
For Hyuuga Hinata, her first day in the academy meant her first step to becoming a real shinobi, her first step to becoming an heiress, her first step to becoming stronger.
But to Hyuuga Hinata, it was the first step to being closer to her one true love.
For as long as she could remember, Hinata was absolutely, undeniably and hopelessly in love with the Uzumaki Naruto. Entering the academy would mean that, apart from staring at the blonde boy almost every day, she could possibly, just possibly, interact with him. She could actually get the opportunity to talk to him and he would actually open his perfect mouth and talk back. Hinata blushed furiously.
What if… he chose to sit next to her?
Hinata's face turned as red as a tomato and a new surge of butterflies hit her stomach. Oh my, she thought, this was too much to handle.
She fidgeted with her hands as she stood at the front of the classroom. She was early. No surprise there. She looked at the near empty classroom. She had her eye set on one seat.
The one in the back corner of the classroom.
She sighed as she leaned back in her seat, satisfied with her choice. She wouldn't have to worry about being noticed by the teacher. She wouldn't have to worry about being noticed by anyone. Hinata had always been self-conscious about her clumsiness, so she was relieved that at the back of the classroom, it wouldn't be put on display. Hinata glanced at the empty seat beside her. If... Naruto sat next to her, he wouldn't tease her. No, Naruto wouldn't. After all, he was such a kind and happy boy.
So Hinata patted herself on the back for a job well done. Nothing can go wrong here.
Or so she thought.
She looked up to see a pair of red eyes staring, glaring, at her. Hinata looked around, it seemed that whilst she was celebrating her ever honourable victory of getting the perfect seat, she had failed to notice more and more people had filed into the classroom.
Including a certain Uchiha.
Hinata gulped as she looked at her lap. The butterflies in her stomach had dropped dead, showing no signs of movement. When she looked up again, she wished she hadn't. Because what he did next made her go pale.
The boy was walking towards her.
Maybe he's heading for the seat behind me, she thought. And then she remembered there wasn't a seat behind her.
Maybe he came to the wrong class and he just wants to leave through the back door, she thought. And then she remembered there wasn't a back door.
Her classmates around her were also going through a list of possible reasons explaining why the Uchiha was walking in a way that seemed to imply that he was heading towards a location that was currently occupied by the Hyuuga. They arrived at one conclusion.
Maybe he wanted to sit next to her.
As Hinata came to the same realisation, a look of horror came across her face. No.
No.
"Yes." She snapped her head to the boy, who was answering one of the fangirls who had asked if he was in his right mind.
Startled, Hinata accidentally knocked a pen off her table.
She squeaked.
He looked at her from the corner of his eye and smirked.
"Hn. Clumsy idiot." He then proceeded to take the seat next to her.
Hinata could smell the stench of rotting butterfly corpses.
Meanwhile, Sasuke decided purple was his favourite colour.
