The boy he tried in vain to protect, whose fate was as equally grave as his, peered at him with brilliant green eyes staring out from the visage of his oldest nemesis. Severus glimpsed a semblance of his only love through grime-smudged frames.

The memories effused out of him, cleansing his soul and recalling him to her light as he entered the darkness beyond the veil. His one and only, his Lily. He would see her again soon. Essence fading, his last rasped words, "Look at me." The burden he bore felt so much lighter. Absolution, salvation, and finally release.
