THE DEATH OF LILY

A/N : Enjoy

He was coming...

Lily knew she had only seconds till he came through the crudely barricaded door.
And then death was coming for her...
She kneeled until she was on level with her son in the crib.
I'll keep him off...
James' words echoed in her mind...
But James was already dead. James, she thought and her heart gave a pang, a snap. Her son was watching her intently. A silent tear rolled down his cheeks; he suspected that something was not right.
Lily looked into his eyes, and saw her own. Green, almond shaped eyes, just like hers. She spoke softly, "Harry."
Harry reached out with one tiny hand towards her. Lily grasped it in hers.
"Harry," she said again.
"You are so loved, so loved." Her voice was barely more than a whisper.
"Dada loves you."
She fought to steady her voice. James.
"Mamma loves you." Her eyes were starting to sting.
"Be safe, Harry, be strong."

-footsteps...
He was coming...
She stood up and braved herself for the death she knew was coming for her...
Only a few seconds.
A few more seconds, and it would all be over...it would all have been for nothing...
But she had to try-
In a few seconds , he appeared...
She pled for her son's life. She screamed. And a few seconds later, she was dead...
...a few seconds later, he was gone...
...a few seconds more and there was nothing left but the ghost of a house, ghost of happy memories within its walls...and the ghost of words uttered, but a few seconds ago...
Be safe, Harry, be strong.
Be safe... Harry...be strong...
...safe...strong...

...and then, they, too, like the two dead souls within the ruins, were gone...and then there was nothing left, but silence, silence...

...silence...silence
...silence

...silence, that seemed to go on forever...

AUTHOR's note :

Please do review. All criticisms, comments, suggestions are welcome.

I typed the whole thing in my smart phone Evernote app first, and I just had to publish this right away, so, pardon me for any typos, or errors.

I had just finished reading "Life and times" by jewels5 when this came to my mind.

Some of the reviews seem to suggest that I made Lily a passive character, when she was a strong, bold witch. Yes, she was. But she was smart enough to realise that she didnt really stand a chance against Voldemort.

These are lines that I took straight from the book, PoA:

"Not Harry, not Harry, please not Harry!"

"Stand aside, you silly girl ... stand aside now..."

"Not Harry, please no, take me, kill me instead..."

"Not Harry! Please... have mercy... have mercy."

See what I mean ?

She was actually begging for her son's life
