Clowns
It was a quiet day. There hadn't been any weevil sightings nor had there been any technology coming through the Rift. Jack was restless, Gwen had gone home to Rhys, Ianto was pottering about in the kitchenette and God knows where Owen was. Not a good day. As often as life and death situations came up, despite the huge amount of strain they put on the team, none of them could deny their love of the danger and adrenaline. Those days were more fun that the dull days stuck in the Hub.
Jack wandered out of his office and saw Tosh sitting at her workstation, fiddling idly with her Rubik's Cube whilst her computer ran through a scan of the latest Rift readings. Going back into his office, Jack rummaged through his draws, looking for something to do. In the bottom drawer, at the very back, there was a clown mask that Jack presumed had been there ever since he'd worked in that bloody circus, advertised as 'The Man who Couldn't Die'. He pulled it out and grinned, a very bad idea creeping up on him.
Turning around, he put the mask on and faced the mirror. "Excellent," he thought, before leaving his office, stepping towards Tosh's workstation silently.
He was right behind her when he let rip a typical evil laugh. It was intended to be joke, just a bit of fun to make a boring evening become a bit more interesting. It was a shame that Tosh didn't see it that way.
She spun around on her chair, a scream escaping her lips before she could stop it. She swiped her gun from the desk and pointed it straight between Jack's eyes.
Then she realised what was going on. "Jesus, Jack!" she gasped, trying to calm her frantically pounding heart.
"Me?!" Jack asked, slightly hysterically, given that he was just about to die from laughing so much. "You're the one who pointed a gun at me! I was just making a joke!"
"What is going on?" Ianto asked, looking down from the railings.
Both Jack and Toshiko opened their mouths to blame the other, but then both simultaneously shook their heads. Toshiko turned back to her computer and began to type rapidly, and Jack snatched the clown mask off the workstation and stalked back to his office.
Back inside, he sat down behind his own desk and pulled a piece of paper towards him. He began to scribble:
For future reference – do not sneak up on Tosh wearing a clown mask, for a laugh. She does NOT find this amusing.
Having done that, he pulled out Tosh's file and slid it inside. He wouldn't be trying that again in a hurry.
