Yes, this is an UlquiHime fic. The summary was no lie. ^^ Although it could be considered one-sided and, of course, you don't have to think he's in love with her but that she's the closest thing to love he has. And if it isn't romantic it's still called the Lima Syndrome. Wanna know what that is? Look it up. xP
Could one, without a form, feel anything?
Yes.
He had become ash and wind and, even if that was not a true form, he could stay near her. He chose to protect her like those silly guardian angels humans believed in. He doubted that even this strange existence would be possible if she were dead.
Then, one night, he was pulled away from her and into complete nothingness.
He awoke again but he was in pain. He could feel pain.
He couldn't understand why, he could sense no one but his strange existence.
Time passed and he finally realized why he could feel pain and why he had been pulled away from Orihime.
He was being reborn.
After months of being away from her, he was finally complete. Completion however had not given him clothing and he supposed the human girl he wished to visit, even if she believed it was a nightmare to see him again, would only be even more frightened to see him without clothes.
And so, he made his old clothing. He hesitated before putting it on. Would it still make him her enemy to wear it? He no longer belonged to Aizen-sama, he could never fight against her as illogical and silly as it was.
He decided the feeling he had for the orange-haired girl was irrational.
Then he remembered.
"Are you afraid of me, girl?"
"I'm not afraid."
And he decided not to question the heart.
There she was, his prisoner.
Ex-prisoner.
She was sleeping, face twisted from whatever dream was harming her. She wouldn't see him tonight and he didn't wish to scare her in the morning. But he would still protect her.
And so he left. Watching one sleep, even with their permission, was strange and quite stalkerish. Even if he had watched her in the wind, he wasn't there at all times. He couldn't have been. She needed her privacy.
He decided to check on her every hour.
And if she wasn't eating... He'd appear and, if he had to, force it down her throat.
A shadow of a smirk passed over his lips. But it was gone in a moment. Emotions were still harder to keep then throw away. The only one that stayed with him were his strange feelings for Orihime. His heart.
He had to tell her one day. Tell her that he understood.
Would it scare her?
"Are you afraid of me, girl?"
"I'm not afraid."
Surely not.
Might make a fanfic with this and My Heart as prequels. xP
