The Sky and Its Ocean
It was only one question..one simple question...one simple, thoughtful question. Precise, but abstract. Obvious, but uncertain. Undecipherable, but questionable...What is your relationship with Katara?
At first, Aang was slightly taken a back when he was asked was a very familiar question, for Zuko often asked him this when he first joined the group. Although Sokka was oblivious, he may have asked him, considering the "Smoochie smoochie! Someone's in looooveee..." part at Aunt Wu's village a few years ago. Toph's annoyance with his constant blushing in front of Katara had often led her into asking the same question. Of course, this was way before the war ended, but the question still caught him off guard.
It wasn't necessarily a bad question..it was just a question. The difference? A question that's unable to be answered. Why, if anyone else was asked this question, the common person would say, "It's love, obviously!" But was that the only way their relationship could be described? Aang, on the other hand, was not embarrased to answer. It was, afterall, a simple question, and love is, afterall, the simple answer. But a part of him felt as if that's not the only answer.
Describing Katara was one of life's mysteries. She was too unique and beautiful, both at heart and at appearance. It was simply impossible to describe her. Even the greatest of the universe's poets can't be able to capture her entire essence in words. Her grace, her beauty, her smile...no wonder the Avatar is hopelessly in love. Suddenly, a thought came to his mind, although it was rather philosophical of some sort.
Katara was the ocean. She is steady and calm, capable of granting life to the millions of lives living deep within the oceanic ridges. She was Mother Nature's greatest creation and is usually gentle and protective of the natural beauty behind her.
Nature isn't always kind to its subjects, but the ocean's motherly protection secures and provides peace within the world. The cool waves gently tickle the rims of the rocky shores, as if purifying them with its sacred waters. When upset or provoked, she was a tsunami, tearing up everything in its path. But then again, the ocean's innocence and oblivious nature often reflected of her own. She was vital for his survival just as the mighty ocean is vital to the world of nature. Although she remains unnoticed, she was essential to the world.
And Aang was the sky. He was the vastness of the world's freedom, providing life in his own way to the world below him. He blankets the universe in any form, able to roam free into the swaying heavens and a realm even above that. He had all the freedom and triumph ever possible. He was also a very vital part of Mother Nature's creations, but he was more of the king of the universe..the ruler of the atmosphere, and the greatest desire of every existence.
Together, the air and the ocean balance eachother out. One could not exist without the other. Both work together in a silent tune of synchronization unknown to mankind. But what happens when the sky wishes more from the ocean? Maybe that was their connection...as deep as the deepest trenches of the oceans, and as vast and endless as the overlooking skies.
Once again, the Avatar was confronted with this question. Only this time, it was the fangirls. Today, as they question him about his love for that unique waterbender, the airbender only laughed and smiled one of the biggest smiles ever attempted. "Well, it all started when the sky fell in love with the ocean..."
