Affairs of the Heart

She was the second eldest of the Black sisters.

While everyone sought out her older sister, Rabastan was drawn to Andromeda.

Her soft, pretty features… her eyes so kind and caring.

They melted him. They left him raw when she was around.

They were in the library studying for Potions. She seemed distracted. He often tried to engage her in deeper conversation, but for some reason or other, he always failed.

He feared she didn't like him back, not the way he fawned over her.

Maybe he was too clingy. No. While he liked to be in her company and enjoyed spending time with her, he didn't need to be with her every second. The gifts he gave her or the kisses he left all over her body were given out of affection, to show her how much he cared; how much he loved her.

Love. A word he hadn't said to her yet; she was still flighty. He wanted to give her time to land on the ground beside him. He wanted her to know his sincerity of those delicate words.

(He longed for her to repeat them with the utmost honesty.)

However, he couldn't help but notice her wandering eye. His heart twisted; it pained him.

He reached out to brush the back of his hand against her cheek. Then he bent down to kiss her. He placed a hand on her thigh and then pulled away.

If he'd done something wrong, he didn't know what it was.

- … - … - … - …

His tuft of golden hair hung scruffily around his face, falling into his eyes; his blue eyes.

Blue like the ocean, Andromeda couldn't help but notice.

Every now and then, he'd gaze up at her from behind his Potions book, catching her eye; her dark eyes.

She'd let the faintest of smiles slip and then suddenly return her gaze back to the sheet in front of her. He was a mudblood; dirty, foul, and poison.

(No: He was beautiful, tender, and sweet.)

Her mind, like her heart, was torn.

She should be studying — her book, not his features.

What was she thinking? Rabastan, her steady boyfriend, was right next to her; why was she fixated on such filth as Ted Tonks?

(He wasn't filth though. He wasn't a pureblood, or half, but his soul was pure.)

What about Rabastan though? He idolized her, fawning over her, careful not to be too clingy, but providing her with just the right touch. He wasn't the sweetest of fellows, but he was good to her.

Her family approved of him as well.

Rabastan loved her, but she couldn't reciprocate.

Her heart wouldn't let her.

She looked up again, to the Hufflepuff table.

Teddy winked at her.

No, he'd never be applicable for her family…

But that didn't stop her from sharing secret moments with him.

Teddy... she repeated in her head as the faintest of touch grazed her skin and the softest of lips met hers.

Rabastan's touch felt great, but just not right.
