A/N: Written for the 5,10,20,50,70,100 fandom challenge, fandom 5. And put here since Angel's Feather seems to be lacking a category and I'm already waiting on support for other stuff. Surprising considering the amount of world-building material it has (none of which I've touched upon).
Disclaimer: Haruma Shou, Misuno Kai (they're twins BTW) and Yuusei Academy all belong to the creators of Angel's Feather.
Taking a Breather During a Marathon
The bus ride was long and he wasn't the sort of person who normally sat still, but that was alright. When someone moved around as much as he did, the time to simply sit and reflect became a very precious thing indeed.
Most of the time he was tired enough to fall asleep en route, muscles sore from pushing them to their limits or brain worn from trying to work out quadratics – but it was a different matter, always a different matter, when his heart was the one hurting.
The pendant shifted a little on his chest, its tiny red glow peeking from his shirt. Shou reached up and touched it absently, wondering if his brother still wore his own.
Or maybe he'd been tempted to take it off as well, to cast it away and avoid the burden of carrying two lost families in his heart. But no; even if he had lost both his real parents and his adopted ones he had no right to discard their memories like trash.
And he'd…it was a burden that he had chosen to bear, alone. Forcing a smile on his face, drying his tears and running to the horizon as fast as his feet could take him, leaving only dust behind.
And that had opened his path to Yuusei Academy. And Kai.
'I'll remember you…but I want you to forget about me Kai.'
He wondered if that was what he still wanted.
The pendant slipped under his shirt again and green eyes followed its imprint. The bus stopped – but no, it was just a traffic light. His destination was far off yet.
Shou sighed and leaned his head on the windowsill, closing his eyes.
