where your heart is

"You know, I really like Sootopolis."

Wallace looked up from his newspaper, slightly startled. He had been immersed in the article about Lisia's latest victory in the Contest Spectacular and Steven was usually so quiet in the mornings. Even now the gray haired male was staring out of the kitchen window looking strangely melancholic, nothing about his expression or posture suggesting he'd spoken up moments before.

A bemused grin tugged Wallace's lips upwards as he reached for his tea cup. "Oh?"

Steven continued to stare outside, not even sparing him a glance. "It's so peaceful. Cozy." He cleared his throat. "Perfect as a retreat when you want to escape your duties."

Wallace looked askance at him, taking a sip of his drink. "I thought you liked being the champion?"

"It's not that…" Steven sighed, finally turning away from the window and offering the other male a small, fond smile. "I just forget how nice it is to relax with you, every now and then. I feel at ease when I'm by your side."

Oh, Wallace thought, blinking as he felt heat rise to his cheeks. Steven was normally so reserved, almost stingy with his affections―and then he went and surprised Wallace with lines like these. As much as you thought you knew how he behaved, there really was no predicting him. Just like the ocean.

Wallace set down the cup and rose, walking towards the champion while holding his gaze. Steven watched him with a curious expression that made Wallace smirk a bit. Sometimes Steven was just too adorable for his own good.

"Well, that's good then," he practically purred as he stopped before the other man, much closer than the usual distance the steel-type user liked to maintain, especially in public. Yet now, in the privacy of Wallace's―no, their―home, Steven didn't even flinch. "Because I too find I quite enjoy your company."

Steven huffed out a short laugh, brows burrowing softly as he tried to hold the eye contact. He would be getting frown lines like his father's in a few years, Wallace just knew it.

Not that he minded, really. Steven would be just as beautiful and perfect, wrinkles and all.

"My, Wallace," Steven mumbled, "I'd say you're trying to seduce me."

Wallace's smirk grew wider. "Really now? I was just thinking the same about you."

The gray haired man grumbled something under his breath, shaking his head slightly. He was smiling though, and as such it wasn't that much of a surprise when he actually leaned in and whispered against Wallace's lips:

"You should know it's working."

Wallace's answering chuckle was cut short by a kiss―not that he minded that either.

I had this small piece of originshipping fan art (the cover for this) hanging around and decided to post it on tumblr (my url is endlexina over there, if anyone's interested!) with a few lines to go along. And then those few lines turned into this and I figured maybe I should just post it here. Everything I write for these two comes out so schmcoopy and short… someday I'll write something longer for these two. Probably. Hopefully.

Anyway, thanks for reading! As per usual, leave a note if you enjoyed.
