AN: so I'm in a kinda sad, depressed mood and this came to me. It's sad and makes me wanna cry just writing it but, I think it came out pretty good.

Pinky promise-
Remember that forever
Leaving me behind,

Why'd you have to go and do this?

But, now I'm all alone.
Forever you knight in shining armor
Why did I believe that?
They all tell me that it will get better
They all tell me that the pain will go away

It hurts to even say your name.
It hurts to look at the picture on my desk.
Why did you have to leave?
People often say that life isn't fair.
Mine was… that is until you left anyway

Maybe they're right,

This stupid sickness that took my love away from me.

AN: so if you hadn't caught on… Gilbert got sick and died… leaving Mattie depressed and lonely and lost.
By "they" I was referring to the other nations as they tried to cheer Mattie up.
Any thing in italics is something Gilbert had said to Mattie.
