Prompt for Thursday 20th January:

Stay With Me

"Stay with me…" Severus pleaded.

"I- I can't." Her young self was taking over. She was looking at Severus like a long lost best friend, instead of an enemy.

"I was the one who introduced you to this world, Evans." Severus said sternly.

"But I'm not choosing to leave this world with you." Lily's eyes had gone watery. "I'm sorry."

"Why, Lily? Why?" Lily realized that he was now calling her by her first name, the voice was too familiar yet it seemed to be from a very distant memory.

"I don't know." She gulped, while thinking of the right words to say. "Maybe it's because of you calling me a Mudblood…"

"But it wasn't on pur-"

"Maybe it's because of James…" Lily stopped Severus mid-sentence.

"That bloody Gryffindor thinks he's better than everyone else!" Severus started to mumble angrily.

"It's not because of James though, it's about James and I both. It's complicated, Severus." She admitted.

"You were the only person I could trust. Now it's as if I don't know who to trust, how to trust, and what trust is." Severus was raising his voice- was it at himself or at Lily, no one knew.

"Trust yourself." Lily smiled.

"I can't even trust myself." Severus said bitterly.

"I hate leaving you like this." Lily confessed and impulsively hugged the boy she used to know so well. Severus didn't waste any second of the hug. He spent it by smelling the scent of her, touching her hair, and letting all his feelings out on one silent hug.

"You don't have to." Severus decided to take his chances.

"I told you, I can't." Lily broke off from his embrace.

"Then what are you doing here?" Severus was yelling at her. "Are you just here to boast about how perfect your life is? And how you cannot just spend it with a lowly wizard such as myself?"

"You are a great wizard, Severus. You are special, but we weren't destined for each other. I think I found my own. You should too."

"You think." Severus noticed the word Lily just used. "You're still not sure?" Lily shook her head.

"I'm sure. I found my destiny, and it is James Potter."

"You're unbelievable." Severus meant it in two ways;

1. You're unbelievable. You're the most amazing girl I've ever met, and I will never forget you. I love you.

and 2. You're unbelievable. How could you? How could you leave me like this for that Potter boy? But I still love you.
