Askaban prison.

A woman lay in a cell, alone. She'd been alone for eight months, without a soul to talk to, without seeing the sky. She let out an agonised cry of pain. Beads of sweat formed and trickled down her forehead, she pushed with all her might. She felt it, she felt it move, she pushed again, hard. She cried out again, the pain was agonising. Another cry started up, this one, a baby's cry. A high pitched wailing. The woman took her dirty jacket and wiped the baby's face.

"Girl" she whispered, wrapping the baby in the jacket….

Dolores Umbridge was always a quiet girl, there was nothing unusual about her, the other children thought, normal height, mousy hair, she seemed to be an okay person, and she got good grades. Sorted into Slytherin house, Dolores was very studious, she strained herself to get to the top of all her classes, and she managed it, passing both her O. , and her N.E.W.T.S with flying colours. She didn't stick out from the crowd, but people knew she was there.

She hadn't had an easy life, being born in Askaban, never meeting either of her parents, the only things she had from them, were her life, and her name. She grew up in a magical orphanage, in a small magical community called Thiuss Town. She was constantly bullied at the orphanage because of her good grades, and her mother's predicament. The main children who bullied her in her younger years, were a centaur named Senzie, a werewolf named Massin, and a half-blood girl named Olive. She grew up despising Centaurs, werewolves, and half-bloods alike.

After leaving Hogwarts, she rose to influential positions in the British Ministry of Magic. She used her positions to draft new laws, such as an anti-werewolf legislation law, so that werewolves have difficulty getting jobs, and tried to get the merpeople tagged and rounded up, but that particular plan never came to fruition.

Because of her hate of particular groups of people, she was used by the Ministry as a spy at Hogwarts in 1995. She tended to resort to cruel and abusive punishments, as that was how she was brought up, and it was the only thing she knew. She desperately wanted to discourage purebloods from breaking laws, as she didn't want their children to end up like her. She wasn't a particularly malicious person, that was the only way she knew how to behave.

So you see, she wasn't ever a particularly malicious person.

She was just trying to keep people out of trouble in the only way she knew how….

And trying to eliminate her 'enemies' on the way…
