When Darkness Falls
Chapter 1:
Shikamaru stood waiting at Tsunades door thinking, "what is so important that the Hokage would call me to her home past midnight", while knocking on her large wooden door.
The door opened revealing a beautiful women in a dark blue robe. "Shikamaru come in I need you to listen to me" it was widely known that Shikamaru's intellect was surpassed only by his laziness. However sensing the urgency in the Hokage's voice stepped inside her old rustic house. "What is so important that you would..." shikamaru stopped talking as he saw that he was surrounded by three other ninja: Kakashi, Gai, and Jairaiya. Kakashi spoke in a cool misty voice "shikamaru think before you speak." shikamaru looked down in a grudging manor, and Tsunade began to speak again "now that we're all here, she said looking at shikamaru for he had been 20 minutes late,
"I would like to assign you all a mission. However it is a mission more dangerous than any other you've been assigned.". Shikamaru looked around at the room, two jonins and a sanin, why would tsunade want a chunin like him. Tsunade continued "A war has broken out between the sound and the sand village your mission is to act as spies for the sand village". Shikamaru perked up knowing it would give him a chance to see Temari. "And one last thing, said Tsunade, there is a reason why I chose you all: shikamaru you are intelligent beyond your years, jairaiya you are as strong as an ox, gai you are as fast as wind, and kakashi your all of those things, you are all dismissed and you may find two people to help you with this mission.". Shikamaru and the other slipped out of the door and into the midnight moon wandering who to choose to help them.
The next morning Naruto awoke to find shikamaru standing at his front door. "Eeeh what do you want shikamaru?" Said naruto sleepily who after hearing tsunades message cheered up yelling at the top of his lungs "FINALLY!". "naruto shut up we still have to find Neji." said shikamaru sleepily. "why neji?" said naruto. Shikamaru looked at naruto implying that he was a total fool, "because naruto, we need his byakugan." said Shikamaru. Naruto sighed, it wasn't like he didn't like neji it was just that he always acted as if he was better than naruto. "Naruto wait up." said a cute konoichi named Sakura.
"Hey Sakura-chan" said Naruto cheerfully. Suddenly kakashi appeared behind sakura with a crack, causing sakura to nearly jump out of her own skin. "Yo, said Kakashi's cool voice, I need to speak with you Sakura" "O.K. Kakashi-sensei." said sakura musically. And they took off into the sun.
