Author's Notes: I realize I am behind on the challenges, but it's been a crazy couple of weeks. So, I'm trying to catch up now. Heehee.
Macy strikes me as the type to enjoy a good thunderstorm. Something we have in common, at least in my imagination. LOL! And I figure since I'd concentrated on the brothers up till now, poor Macy was feeling neglected. (Stella too, but that will have to come later.)
Lightning streaked across the cloudy sky in a display rivaling even the best fireworks on the fourth of July, accompanied by a large crash of thunder. It was awesome and frightening all at once.
And Macy loved every minute of it. She couldn't stop watching out the window as she tried to study with Stella and the Lucas boys at the firehouse.
At first no one noticed her preoccupation. She would turn and stare out the window with a small smile and wide, excited eyes. Then she would force herself back around to concentrate on the history homework she was working on. But invariably her eyes would turn back to the window.
The sun was slowly sinking toward the horizon, but the storm clouds made it almost seem like nighttime. It created the perfect canvas for the lightening to paint across.
"Macy?" Kevin asked when he glanced up and finally noticed her staring out the window in fascination.
"Hmm?" She slowly turned from the window to look at Kevin. The others were watching now as well.
"Are you okay? Did you need to go home? Because we could give you a ride home so you don't have to walk in the storm."
Macy waved off his concerns. "No, sorry. I just love thunderstorms. Lightning is so cool, the way the whole sky lights up. I love watching."
"Oh. Um, okay."
Stella closed her book, finally realizing there was a full-blown lightning display going on outside. She knew how much her best friend loved storms. "Let's take a break. Macy won't be able to concentrate anyway."
"Thank god!" Joe exclaimed slamming his book shut and throwing it down on the couch. "I can't take anymore. My brain is melting."
Nick rolled his eyes and ignored Joe's theatrics.
Everyone glanced back over at Macy who had already turned around and was staring raptly out the window.
Kevin took a spot next to her, curious about what it was she saw in the storm. Thunderstorms scared him as a child so he was never really comfortable with them.
Stella and Joe joined them. It gave them something to do besides homework.
Nick shrugged mentally and took the spot on the other side of Macy.
A few minutes later Tom and Sandy came downstairs to a darkened room and five teenagers with their noses practically pressed to the glass making exclamations about the light show taking place outside.
