Her gaze snapped to the wall. Suddenly, she gasped and lunged toward him. "Look out!" She managed to tackle him to the ground. Bang! To his disbelief, an energy blast had torn through the wall, decimating the spot where he'd just been. After a moment of shock, Sirius turned to her. "How did you do that?"
She blinked. "Do what?"
"How did you know that was coming?"
She looked to the wall. "I don't know…I just did."
He stared at her in mute astonishment. She was a muggle wasn't she? Was she? He set aside the question for later. He tucked a hair behind her ear, drawing her gaze back to him. "Thank you."
She swallowed. "You're welcome." Her cheeks heated and she gave a shy smile.
After several seconds, neither had moved. "We should probably get up," Miranda murmured with a slight chuckle.
Sirius studied her features. "Probably."
They remained where they were. He noted the way her eyes dilated as she searched his gaze, clearly unsure of herself. He should shift beneath her, pretending to remind her of their position. The problem was, he should have done a lot of things differently. When was the last time he'd kissed someone? Could he even remember? He remembered many kisses...but the last one? Had it been some one-night stand? Had to have was the last time a kiss had meant something?
Heart pounding, he lifted his hand to cup her nape. Just one kiss. He leaned in and urged her forward. She complied beautifully, eyes wide but full of nervous desire. In the next moment, his eyes were closed and his lips were tangled with hers.
