The night sky seemes to be closer than ever, just like you could reach out and grab a hand full of stars.
"Do you think we'll die tonight?", Petra whispers.
The man next to her lets out an annoyed sound before he answers her question with another question "Do you really believe in all this weird Maya calender thing?"
Auruo winces after Petra slapped his head. "You never know. It could be!" she said.
"Well, I'm sure you would still nag me even in death. " He can't stop himself before the words leave his mouth.
He hates to talk about things like this. Why should they think about death yet? They're still so young. They still have so many things to do. If he can gather enough courage one day to ask her, of course.
A comfortable silence settles over them. Petra snuggles up to Auruo who, in return, puts an arm around her waist and pulls her closer. They search for each other's warmth. December nights are cold and not even their thick blanket can keep the chill from their bodies.
"Auruo", Petra's voice is barely audible, only a warm breeze in the silver starlit night, "Even if this was our last moment you are the only one I would like to spend it with." She interlaces her fingers with his. "I love you."
Can he really see the stars turn or is his head just spinning? Even after their three years of relationship he still can't believe that this nagging, lovely, absolutely beautiful women chose him above all the others. Auruo can feel the heat creep up his neck and warm his face.
He tries to bring out a coherent sentence, but as soon as he opens his mouth there is only flustered muttering, "Petra, I- You know… Fuck!"
And where the words fail him he lets his actions speak for them. Auruo pulls Petra into his lap and into a tight embrace.
And when he cups her cheek and finally kisses her passionately both don't recognize the faint red glow looming on the horizon.
The sun starts to rise.
