Harry Potter, the- boy- who- lived
Time stood still. I remember seeing Voldemort's lifeless body hitting the ground but after that I don't remember. I don't remember saying, "Harry, behind you", and I most certainly do not remember how I ended up at the side of my best friend.
"Harry!" Someone yelled. I'm guessing that person was me. But I couldn't remember. My mind had gone numb.
I do remember waking up on the ground next to Harry. I looked down, "Harry?" I whispered, "Harry, are you ok?"
No he was not ok. I knew he wasn't. But I could still hope, can't I? A silent tear ran down my cheek.
My friends' eyes were open in shock. He hadn't seen it coming. He hadn't been quick enough.
Someone came up behind me, but I didn't know who. My brain had stopped thinking. My brain had gone numb.
I jumped, finally realizing a hand was on my shoulder.
"Ron? What happened? Is Harry ok? Ron? Ron?" It was Hermione. I wanted her to go away. Opening my mouth to say something, nothing came out.
I looked up. Hermione was now on the ground behind Harry. She was holding his head in her lap. Thick streams of tears were running down her beautiful face.
She kept shaking her head. I caught a few words she was saying.
"I thought it wasn't going to end this way." "Oh Harry, if only I could see your laughing face again." "Harry. Why?"
I stood up. Hermione did the same.
"Ron? I thought we were going to be celebrating today. But instead we are crying. Ron, I miss him." I tried putting on a brave face for her. Know I would have to stay strong for her. I pulled her into a hug, never wanting to let go. Gradually I let go. Feeling another wet hot tear run down my cheek.
I can't remember what happened the rest of that day. My mind was blank. I felt nothing. I had gone numb.
My only memory of that day was dinner. Everyone was happy and celebrating the defeat of Voldemort. No one knew that one of them was gone. No one knew who had died that day. No one knew I had lost my best friend.
Dumbledore stood up. "Today instead of celebrating, I would like to remember all the people who have lost their lives at the hands of Voldemort. I want to remember Harry Potter." A tear ran down my tear stained cheek. "He killed Voldemort, but moments after he went down himself." Dumbledore raised his cup. "To Harry Potter, the- boy- who- lived."
