A/N: I've had this idea a while. This is not the last you will see of my rants on Christian. I love him, you know. I really do. This is short, but I like it. Review, please.

Pedestal

It wasn't like he had her on a pedestal or anything.

Really, he knew exactly who she was. What she was. She was a rich kid, a princess, a phony and a liar, just like the rest of them. She was selfish and foolish and ignorant of the way the real world worked. She hadn't specialized, she had never been good at resisting the sunlight, and she never thought that anyone in the world could put an end to the perfection she saw. She thought everything was just fucking perfect, and he knew it. He knew that she'd never cried herself to sleep, that she'd never had to fight her way out of any sort of trouble of any kind, and that she probably never would.

Then her family died. And she disappeared. And Christian knew she wouldn't come back without good reason. Because Rose was with her. Christian never liked Rose, the way she acted like the protector. Christian could protect her himself. She just didn't know it. Rose, though, would never let him near her. But Christian knew that Rose would do anything to keep her precious princess safe.

To keep Christian's precious princess safe.

Because no matter what he told himself, he would never be entirely convinced that Lissa Dragomir was all façade. There was a person in there, Christian knew. And he also knew that he loved that person. Vampire. Whoever she was. She wasn't all blonde hair and green eyes. There was a mind back there behind that pretty pale face.

So when she came back, Christian knew what he was going to do. He was going to let her fall in love with him. It wouldn't be difficult. She needed someone to cry to, someone to rant to, someone to make the nightmares go away. She needed someone like him.

And that was all he gave her.
