Spencer Reid hated the smell of fish, but he loved the sight of vials.

The craving he was having; he didn't know why he had said to Tobias that he didn't want it. Because oh dear god, he did. He should've wanted it, then. Then again, Spencer was a foolish man back then, he didn't know any better.

He's raised, much like others, to believe that drugs are bad. Even with a schizophrenic mom who'd forget to eat if she wasn't supervised taught him that. But his mom believed hers was poisoned, which is probably why she told him that.

Dilaudid.

Even the name makes him all jittery with excitement.

The torture by Tobias was abysmal enough. Spencer believes now that withdrawal symptoms were worse. If he hadn't killed Tobias, he'd probably be able to get the vials a lot easier now. Damn him and his own stupidity.

Most people start off with marijuana, maybe they'll move up to pills, then possibly to cocaine, and so on and so forth. The big one would be heroin, which could sometimes be classified as Dilaudid. Spencer had never smoked a cigarette in his life, let alone smoke pot.

But everyone knew that Spencer Reid wasn't most people.

Spencer knew that for a genius, he was quite dumb. The risks he was taking for his fix. His job, his badge, his gun, his friendships, his life. He had come to the conclusion that he didn't care. If he got caught, then he got caught. He was sly enough to avoid it, but he knew it wasn't going to last forever. He might as well savour it now. He was on a team of profilers, surely they'd find out. He's almost positive Gideon was on to him.

"I need to use the bathroom, excuse me," Spencer says, a trend that's become frequent and rehearsed. He goes into the bathroom and does his standard routine. He rumages through his bag for his treasured prize. He grabs a needle and puts it in the substance to absorb it. He then wraps his forearm with a rubber band to make his veins pop.

Spencer smiled, everything was perfect.

He clutched the needle in his hand, and carefully inserted it into his vein. After that, the effects of euphoric bliss would take effect.
