To Maedhros

(Morgoth)

Why do you think that light remains?

Why still believe that life prevails?

Why don't you listen to the night

And kiss your cursed past good-bye?

(Mandos)

The night shall weep with you tonight

You have your choice, you have your plight.

The Lord of Death can lift the curse

But could you live with such a truce?

The eyes that saw the light of Trees

Will they be soothed by Silmarils?

Will their shine in his black crown

Help you resist or bring you down?

(Maedhros)

The choice is clear, sighs the Moon

The answer will be given soon.

For all the Noldor I must choose,

My spirit marred by abuse.

I know what the choice will be

For my people death, and pain for me

But Hope will survive the dark

And live to see the light of Stars.

Author's Notes:

- it is something written after a long and difficult day at work

- it was written under heavy influence of Blind Guardian's "Nigtfall in Middle Earth" album

- it is meant to be sung rather than recited

- to fit the meter, I had to discard quite a few articles

- I don't recall Morgoth ever being called Lord of Death in the Silm, but someone called "Bauglir" – "the Constrainer" could surely be called that

- I am fully aware that the plural of Silmaril is Silmarili, but I needed to use English-style plural for the rhyme

- The Stars meant in the last line are not any Stars, but Valacirca specifically

- Abuse is meant as a synonym for torture, slash-minded readers are advised to send their mind through a washing machine
